2v2r Season 9 league and rankings

#1

Season 9 started at 16th of September 2015
I started playing 2v2r on May 2013.
Here is the link to my season 8 matches

210th won (118-92) with a fellow Super Titan.

211th won (119-92) in all random Super Titan matchup. Great.

212th won (120-92) with J0$ against arranged masters.
outwitters://viewgame?id=ahRzfm91dHdpdHRlcnNnYW1lLWhyZHIVCxIIR2FtZVJvb20YgIDAyaP2rAoM

213th lost (120-93) in all Adorables match up. GG, though mistakes were done on turn 9 and 11 by us.
outwitters://viewgame?id=ahRzfm91dHdpdHRlcnNnYW1lLWhyZHIVCxIIR2FtZVJvb20YgIDAhYOOswoM

214th lost (120-94) with J0$ after 92 turns.
outwitters://viewgame?id=ahRzfm91dHdpdHRlcnNnYW1lLWhyZHIVCxIIR2FtZVJvb20YgIDA_q-gpwkM

215th won (121-94) against arranged ST in 50 turns. I had the wits to make sure that path was left open.
outwitters://viewgame?id=ahRzfm91dHdpdHRlcnNnYW1lLWhyZHIVCxIIR2FtZVJvb20YgIDA6cbqqQoM

216th lost (121-95) with J0$ against the established ST team. They had more joint plays as we were forced to react on β€œour sides” alone.
outwitters://viewgame?id=ahRzfm91dHdpdHRlcnNnYW1lLWhyZHIVCxIIR2FtZVJvb20YgIDAqcPctQoM

217th won (122-95). I was only ST, so it was appropriate to win this tight match.

I had 10 simultaneous matches to launch new season, but still could not make it to the first few rankings. Still 2 ongoing matches, but I am not starting new ones in near future.

Also iOS 9 update ruined Outwitters connection to Game Center forcing me to wait more than 5 minutes to see match list. I play with phone and love to take my turns on a move, so this situation has alienated me from the game. No more games for me.

iOS 9.1 seems to fix my iPhone 6 Game Center related troubles. Time to launch a single match.

220th won (125-95) in all ST match. All players were blazingly fast to take turns. Random team beat arranged team this time, felt good, especially since I made wit count error early on the game.

222nd won (127-95) against arranged Super Titans. This was the second match of those 3 that I got paired as teammate with rcsum. And during this week those yhteen were the only matches I had going on.

  3. Juslas (10 – 3) 1-0
  4. rcsum (10 – 5) 1-0

  9. (+3) G3ntleB3ast (12 – 18) 2-0
  10. (-1) tomasthundiyil (21 – 25) 4-4

223rd won (128-95) against masters. Straight forward hit the base to 3 hp and then save wits to breach with mobi sniper. Opponent did hold the defense lines correctly against my one or two wit shortage. They should have attacked my units, too. By turn 49 I had saved wits for second mobi just to pull soldier away from hex where sniper needs to land. Opponent does do a big mistake on their defense line, leaving me really cheap way to breach to win the match!

  2. hifimatlock (7 – 6) 1-0
  3. Juslas (11 – 3) 1-0
  4. rcsum (11 – 6) 1-1

  9. (N) baustin42 (4 – 1)
  10. (-3) HairballRemedy (2 – 7) 0-2

224th lost (128-96) with rcsum, nice to play with him, and I did not mind mobi getting killed, because of playfield reading error. Much better to have proactive partner with ideas that includes your units and turns from the future. This was the third one as partners.
outwitters://viewgame?id=ahRzfm91dHdpdHRlcnNnYW1lLWhyZHIVCxIIR2FtZVJvb20YgIDA7bezgwsM

225th lost (128-97) with fluffy. This was I told you and you ignored kind of match. Opponent left us great opportunities to even scrambler bombshell, but no, we lost fast. I was forced to move defense soldiers up from bottom spawn and team had very little team play. Arranged Super Titans won, but they did leave us tiny change to scrambler match around. Replay needs to be watched assuming if red had the wits to pull scrambler, since red did not have the wits, because wits we foolishly consumed against my advice (on team chat).

Look how close the ranking list is, single loss drops you from the podium. And there are two climbers with winning streak.

  1. (+1) hifimatlock (7 – 6) (0-0)
  2. (-1) jesusfuentesh (14 – 8) (0-1)
  3. ( - )Juslas (11 – 5) 0-2

  10. (+2) bawk11 (10 – 12) 3-0

2v2r weekly elite, January 11th, 2015

  1. hifimatlock (7 – 6)
  2. jesusfuentesh (14 – 8)
  3. Juslas (11 – 5)
  4. rcsum (12 – 7)
  5. sdmario (22 – 13) 0-1
  6. senseless headache (8 – 8)
  7. TheBarrow (6 – 6)
  8. (+1) baustin42 (5 – 2) 0-1
  9. (+2) flogue-le (20 – 21) 2-2
  10. bawk11 (10 – 14) 0-2

226th won (129-97), genuine 2v2r match. Bad start, but active chat helped to turn match around. This was positive game, nothing like with those fluffies with whom I have matches going on at the moment.
outwitters://viewgame?id=ahRzfm91dHdpdHRlcnNnYW1lLWhyZHIVCxIIR2FtZVJvb20YgIDA25XovgoM

227th lost (129-98) with newbie who had 18 total wins so far. By the time partner started to listen it was too late on Blitz Beach. There just isn’t time to build runners for visibility!

2v2r weekly elite, January 18th, 2015
One loss changed the podium, like it did two weeks ago.

  1. (+1) jesusfuentesh (14 – 8) 0-0
  2. (-1) hifimatlock (7 – 7) 0-1
  3. ( - ) Juslas (12 – 6) 1-1
  4. ( - ) rcsum (14 – 8) 2-1
  5. ( - ) sdmario (24 – 14) 2-1
  6. ( - ) senseless headache (8 – 8) 0-0
  7. ( - ) TheBarrow (6 – 7) 0-1
  8. (+2) bawk11 (12 – 15) 2-1
  9. (-1) baustin42 (5 – 2) 0-0
  10. (-1) flogue-le (22 – 22) 2-1

228th won (130-98) against arranged masters with sdmario who to my surprise was also at master level. Opponent had better race combination, but we were able to pull fast attack with soldiers.
outwitters://viewgame?id=ahRzfm91dHdpdHRlcnNnYW1lLWhyZHIVCxIIR2FtZVJvb20YgIDAm72O5woM

229th lost (130-99) with fluffy against masters. This partner deliberately played against my advise. I tried my best to educate, but game was lost during first two rounds.
outwitters://viewgame?id=ahRzfm91dHdpdHRlcnNnYW1lLWhyZHIVCxIIR2FtZVJvb20YgIDAx_rmqgoM

230th won (131-99) very fast match against arranged Super Titan team. We have no communication, but red makes huge mistake by leaving troops too far back. What is the point of medic, if you position units ΓΌber safely. Teammate boldly pulls my soldier, that I just moved, but you need to act if opening is given to you. Great solo play by hifimatlock.
outwitters://viewgame?id=ahRzfm91dHdpdHRlcnNnYW1lLWhyZHIVCxIIR2FtZVJvb20YgIDAt_GjpgoM

231st won (132-99) in true 2v2 random match among top players. Currently top 5 and top 10 are ranked as masters. It is good to know that 2v2 has easier algorithm for Super Titan status than 1v1, yet it is a task to reach (and stay) at Super Titan level.
outwitters://viewgame?id=ahRzfm91dHdpdHRlcnNnYW1lLWhyZHIVCxIIR2FtZVJvb20YgIDA16PZtAkM

232nd won (133-99) with fellow Super Titan against masters.

2v2r Weekly Elite on Christmas Day 2015

  1. (+1) hifimatlock (8 – 7) 1-0
  2. (+1) Juslas (16 – 7) 4-1
  3. (-2) jesusfuentesh (14 – 8) 0-0
  4. ( - ) rcsum (16 – 8) 2-0
  5. (+1) senseless headache (8 – 8) 0-0
  6. (+4) flogue-le (24 – 22) 2-0
  7. ( - ) TheBarrow (6 – 7) 0-0
  8. ( - ) bawk11 (14 – 16) 2-1
  9. ( - ) baustin42 (5 – 2) 0-0
  10. (-5) sdmario (25 – 18) 1-4

233rd won (134-99) with flogue-le with whom I still have two more ongoing matches as a team. After having short games with some newbies, it was relief to have an experienced partner. It was bawk11’s turn to be unlucky to be paired with fluffy. I now have 3 ongoing matches, on the third match my partner is current ranking leader hifimatlock.
outwitters://viewgame?id=ahRzfm91dHdpdHRlcnNnYW1lLWhyZHIVCxIIR2FtZVJvb20YgIDA19ff5QoM

234th lost (134-100) with flogue-le on Blitz Beach. I take this lost to myself, since I should have defended a bit more. But our play styles does not work together, and we have been partners plenty, and track record is embarrassing, to be honest.
At best I adapt and change my play, but if I try to push my aggressive opening moves, we end up loosing. Our third match is currently in a loosing position, too.
outwitters://viewgame?id=ahRzfm91dHdpdHRlcnNnYW1lLWhyZHIVCxIIR2FtZVJvb20YgIDAz6eYrQkM

235th lost (134-101) only an hour after previous lost. With flogue-le is good to play, though we play very differently, which is great!
outwitters://viewgame?id=ahRzfm91dHdpdHRlcnNnYW1lLWhyZHIVCxIIR2FtZVJvb20YgIDAz9z7rgsM

New year starts with the 1st of January 2016 ranking list. And thanks to those 2 lost matches with top ten mate flogue-le, my humble climb ends yet again as a drop.

  1. ( - ) hifimatlock (8 – 7) 0-0
  2. (+1) jesusfuentesh (14 – 8) 0-0
  3. (+1) rcsum (16 – 8) 0-0
  4. (-2) Juslas (17 – 9) 1-2
  5. (+2) TheBarrow (8 – 8) 2-1
  6. (+3) baustin42 (7 – 2) 2-0
  7. (+3) sdmario (25 – 18) 0-0
  8. ( - ) bawk11 (15 – 19) 1-3
  9. (+2) HairballRemedy (3 – 7) 0-0
  10. (-4) flogue-le (28 – 26) 4-4

236th lost (134-102) with hifimatlock against arranged Super Titans. This was quite good match, we had a good try to breach, but they had just enough units at right places to defend us. Bombshell and mobi once again beat all adorables team.
outwitters://viewgame?id=ahRzfm91dHdpdHRlcnNnYW1lLWhyZHIVCxIIR2FtZVJvb20YgIDAt7HNtQoM
I am cutting down number of simultaneous matches. More matches means more arranged ST opponents and greater change of having newbie partners. I have now two matches on, one with clever and another with master flogue-le.

237th won (135-102). Super Titan paired with a master on both sides.

Not playing was the winning strategy for 2v2r list, 8th of January, 2016

  1. (+1) jesusfuentesh (14 – 8) 0-0
  2. (-1) hifimatlock (8 – 8) 0-1
  3. rcsum (16 – 8) 0-0
  4. Juslas (18 – 10) 1-1
  5. TheBarrow (8 – 8) 0-0
  6. baustin42 (7 – 2) 0-0
  7. sdmario (27 – 19) 2-1
  8. (+1) HairballRemedy (3 – 7) 0-0
  9. (+2) Torbreck. (14 – 4) 0-0
  10. (+3) BK VII (6 – 1) 1-0
  11. (+1) WollemiPine (7 - 2) 0-0
  12. (-4) bawk11 (15 - 22) 0-3

238th won (136-102) with clever against arranged Super Titans who are ranked at top 10:
7. Dishboy4rent & -Fammo- (39 – 20)
This replay is entertaining and quite educational on things you should not do.
Turn 20 by blue has it all, starting from spawning wrong units from wrong spawns. These things do matter. And not using sniper when you can is in general an error, but on this map moving sniper south helps greatly on defending against advancing boosted heavy. After this move opponent had multiple ways to win and we needed them to make errors. And we got some handed to us.
Still by turn 28 we had lost the match, since our desperate charge was defendable and yellows attack was unstoppable. By shelling and unshelling bs blue could have saved my mobi. Yet red could have blocked all entry points for mobi sniper. We talked about this on chat and blue choose to do β€œwhatever”. Therefore red could have just killed the mobi - game over. Instead red left the base open. I did not need to remove the fog, because there was nothing to defend against yellow and no way else to win the game. Sometimes victory is just given to you.

Top 2v2 Random Players at 15th of January 2016 and not playing got jesusfuentesh out of the list while rcsum benefitted hifimatlock’s loss.

  1. rcsum (16 – 8) 0-0
  2. hifimatlock (8 – 9) 0-1
  3. Juslas (19 – 10) 1-0
  4. baustin42 (7 – 2) 0-0
  5. TheBarrow (8 – 9) 0-1
  6. sdmario (30 – 21) 3-2
  7. HairballRemedy (3 – 7) 0-0
  8. bawk11 (18 – 23) 3-1
  9. Torbreck. (14 – 4) 0-0
  10. BK VII (6 – 1) 0-0

239th lost (136-103) against hifimatlock paired with master while I had Super Titan as partner. This will widen the ranking gap between us, making it harder to me to climb back at top. Double adorables (we) made some mistakes early on, but beauty of this match is how double scallywags charge: single bombshell supports horde of soldiers. And notorious heavy walks very long way, too.
outwitters://viewgame?id=ahRzfm91dHdpdHRlcnNnYW1lLWhyZHIVCxIIR2FtZVJvb20YgIDA_7qFtQoM

240th won (137-103) by blindfolded medic mobi sniper opening on Mechanism.

241st won (138-103). Random against arranged. The turn 17 is very entertaining!

242nd won (139-103) with master (last week 2v2r ranking 6th) against arranged Super Titans (last week 2v2a ranking 9th).
outwitters://viewgame?id=ahRzfm91dHdpdHRlcnNnYW1lLWhyZHIVCxIIR2FtZVJvb20YgICg4PPKpQoM

Last week was quite active for the top players:
Top 2v2 Random Players at 22nd of January 2016

  1. (+1) hifimatlock (10 – 9) 2-0
  2. (-1) rcsum (17 – 9) 1-1
  3. ( - ) Juslas (22 – 11) 3-1
  4. ( - ) baustin42 (7 – 2) 0-0
  5. Dusty (8 – 1) NEW

Dusty’s record from OSN: all 10 matches won, 9 of them as player 1, 3 first round time outs, 8 matches with newbies or fluffy and 2 matches with clever. Dusty did get placed directly to master league. According to OSN: Dusty’s first lost was 12th match making it 11-1 start. Maybe first three matches from β€œ2 weeks ago” did not make it to weekly elite list as Dusty entered as new.
This ranking list performance is yet an another proof that 2v2r top players are just barely above initial ranking points given to newbie.

6 (-1) TheBarrow (8 – 10) 0-1
7 (-1) sdmario (31 – 22) 1-1
8 (-1) HairballRemedy (3 – 7) 0-0
9 ( - ) Torbreck. (15 – 4) 1-0

I have no idea what messes up those game links that use to show up just fine.
One line of edit above this sentence was made with iPhone. This line is done on computer.
Messed up links were repairable only with iOS device, but computer did not mess them up again. No clue what had messed them up in a first place, but iPhone edit fixed all the links.

243rd won (140-103) in a match that hopefully gives a good boost to my partner, who really needs a boost to get paired with better partners. Good performance from us on this large map.

244th lost (140-104) due two rounds of wit inefficient team play. When we got things running opponent had the wits and units to crush us.

1 (+1) rcsum (17 – 9) 0-0 Super Titan
2 (+1) Juslas (23 – 12) 1-1 Super Titan
3 (-2) hifimatlock (10 – 11) 0-2 Super Titan
Hifimatlock was paired with last week’s new entry Dusty and a first round quitter against arranged Super Titans. It is good to know that we all suffer this, often 2v2r does not feel fair.
4 ( - ) baustin42 (7 – 2) 0-0 Super Titan

Extended list to show last week’s new entry’s still very respected place at top 15.

245th won (141-104) with ranking leader against arranged Super Titans. This time I hit middle base with soldier asap. Partner rcsum targets side base with mobi, but we are able to do only a runner hit there. This forces enemy to stretch defense line and we are able to penetrate defense where it is only a soldier thick. Match is not too long to watch and end unit count is quite impressive.

246th lost (141-105) against ranking leader rcsum. We both we paired with Clever, so this was most fair match up for the top spot! Unfortunately my Clever partner with over 5200 wins (yes, the number is unbelievable) did not pay any attention to my advice. Poor wit efficiency, that I was able to cope with. But not killing the blue mobi, kill was set for a single wit shot! Required sniper was moved by my mobi … and I reminded my partner beforehand about the obligatory kill in the chat. This is random, and it is not fun in so many times. This lost match hurts me very badly!

248th won (143-105) with Super Titan against Masters. On Blitz Beach bombshell dominates, therefore matchup with Feedback and Adorables is breeze of fresh air. I miss click on turn 5, but I am fortunate to have a partner who can cope it. Turn 13 is a follow up to miss click and opponent specials position on map. Mobi scrambler combo is something that has wide range. And turn 16 is a good example of that. To counter that is quite costly. And immediately the attack is on the other side of the map. At right side of the map I am willing to sacrifice special, it is needed to defend and red has good presence at left. Green heavy hits our base, but heavy is killable. Right thing to do is kill mobi. Because I can guarantee our win with mobi, that mobi should have been killed. Further speculation: opponent can team kill red soldier at far left. So bases would be 1, 3, 3 and 5 (instead of 3, 3, 3, 3). We still had had an edge.

1 (+2) Juslas (26 - 13) 2-0
2 ( - ) hifimatlock (11 - 11) 1-0
3 (-2) rcsum (19 - 11) 0-2
This week I had the wins while rcsum did not. Getting paired with Gifted and Clever against arranged Super Titans makes winning almost impossible. Can’t tell if ranking point deduction was fair to rcsum.

249th won (144-105) with partner who had climbed from season 2 fluffy to master at season 9. Knowing match making issues, that climb is an achievement. I love partners who initiate chat and if they give me good move advice, even better. Plenty action on this match.

New entry shocker Dusty still plays Outwitters, but Dusty has switched to 2v2a at Clever league.
19 (-5) Dusty (12 - 15) 0-0

250th match is at winning position. I do not have any other 2v2r matches going on. I do consider to retire. Other option is to fool around by launching 20 matches simultaneously to just see how many first round quitters I get paired with.

#4

Yeah I’m considering just flat out stopping Outwitters, we’ll see. I’ll probably still play some arranged 2v2 with the friends

#5

I will continue with arranged 2v2, one or two matches per partner. This random is quite taxing because of matchmaking just does not work (as it is) with small player pool. I hate going against arranged Super Titans paired with fluffies who do not pay any attention to any advice I gave them.
If OML reads this, I repeat my request to separate random and arranged 2v2 leagues. Making random truly random, no attempt to match same level players, that would make 2v2r league true to it’s name, fare, in my opinion.

#6

250th won (145-105) against arranged masters who has not made it to the weekly elite ranking list. My partner was ranked 46th on 2v2 random ranking list.
outwitters://viewgame?id=ahRzfm91dHdpdHRlcnNnYW1lLWhyZHIVCxIIR2FtZVJvb20YgICguN-G4QgM
58% of matches won. I started playing 2v2r on May 2013, making this 3 months short of 3 years of Outwitters random mayhem. That’s just short of 8 matches per a month.

#7

Juslas, that is quite a detailed analysis you have put together. I enjoyed the read.

hifimatlock, Juslas, rcsum and jesusfuentesh has slightly higher secret ranking than next bunch starting from TheBarrow. I should get a quite a hit with this foolish experiment:

So I went to launch 10 simultaneous matches. It was a task, so I did not continue all the way to 20. Just launching as P1 ten times a row was too much.
I end up being matched against arranged masters and Super Titans and because I launched too many matches, I was paired with β€œwho ever”. From hifimatlock and rcsum to player with 0 wins.

Season 9 final score for league points:

#10

I dropped results from my ten match experience here, since it is more like the end of last season thing. Games went 1-8 and there is still one ongoing. I also accidentally started 11th match - so my record shows now 1-9.

These beginning of the season ranking lists are still pointless. After a week or two we will see how bad hit my ranking points got with this.

I launched 10 simultaneous matches, evidently to be paired with newbies and fluffies against arranged Super Titans and masters.

251st (145-106) lost with fluffy with whom I have 4 simultaneous matches as a team.

255th (145-110) lost with clever against top 30 arranged team. This was winnable, mainly because on small maps there still is tiny FTA. Partner was too clever to follow my advice, yet this was not a disaster like some matches that are still on (this series of 10). This was winnable, and that is the generous compliment to my partner by me.
outwitters://viewgame?id=ahRzfm91dHdpdHRlcnNnYW1lLWhyZHIVCxIIR2FtZVJvb20YgICgzNeItQoM

256th (146-110) won with the most competent random partner one can wish for. There was absolutely no talk between us, no coherent game plan, nothing. We just utilized both sides of the map extremely wit efficiently. And our opponent was top 10 arranged Super Titan team, so you can understand the difference for the rest of the nine matches!
outwitters://viewgame?id=ahRzfm91dHdpdHRlcnNnYW1lLWhyZHIVCxIIR2FtZVJvb20YgICgrIzAqgoM

257th (146-111) lost after 60 turns of stupidity, fair game since it was fluffy against clever. But all the advice you try to give means nothing when partner ignored it totally. This match was really painful experience.
outwitters://viewgame?id=ahRzfm91dHdpdHRlcnNnYW1lLWhyZHIVCxIIR2FtZVJvb20YgICgzNeItQkM

258th (146-112) lost after 62 turns of agony. These two matches on Acrospire were sad.
outwitters://viewgame?id=ahRzfm91dHdpdHRlcnNnYW1lLWhyZHIVCxIIR2FtZVJvb20YgICgzJfXpAkM

259th (146-113) lost. This was 11th match and started by accident, this was started week later than rest of the games. And does not belong to the list. Good match among competent players. There is that turn 5 middle base hit, big question about Mechanism openings. My base hit soon after is even more debatable, because of it’s cost. Short and aggressive play is now evident. I should have repeated turn 22 at turn 26, since I knew that would have been the best move. But with random partner you try to figure out what works for the team, you need to adapt if partner does not react to your move as you hoped for. My mistake, no doubt about it, now after the game is over!
outwitters://viewgame?id=ahRzfm91dHdpdHRlcnNnYW1lLWhyZHIVCxIIR2FtZVJvb20YgICg3IC2pAsM

260th (146-114) lost. Race advantage on top of skill advantage, 28 turns, maybe that can be considered as an achievement.

Four hundred 2v2r matches in 5 years
#11

I think it’s only worth hitting the base when there’s nothing blocking it, and even then it’s debatable. If you have to sacrifice two soldiers to hit the base then it’s definitely not worth it.

#12

On 2v2 turn order and race combination stir up things. On Machination it is possible to do mobi sniper from the spawn and Mechanism has all bases wide open and vulnerable against long range strikes. Arranged team can (some would argue) waiste soldier strike to both enemy bases on Mechanism, making defending long front impossible task. Not defending and countering with breach instead, can be valid argument.

Hitting base on turn 5 at Mechanism is something I consider a right play. I know some established teams do not take the open hit and they have valid reasons for that. To me the mobi sniper fear is more valuable. But to defend the attack path with a runner, runner that can be cheaply killed and that runner ends up been in very bad position, messing up team units natural flow. At 2v2 league color of the P1 is random, so the opening rounds units turn order aren’t always the same as they are in 1v1.

Doing costly breach leaving you with unit shortage is sure way to loose 1v1 match. Arranged 2v2 team can get away of that kind of situation surprisingly often. Lack of skill on opposite side helps, but it is more about turn order and precise unit placement. Many times it is question of having a wit or not, arranged team can do plays they never use medic, because those wits are needed to rush. Team at match in question was random, so it is fair to argue that my costly breach was a terrible error. If it had been arranged team, we could have concentrated units at the middle and tried to breach there. Not to defend both bases as we did.

Hitting open base was wise. No question about that.
Defending with a runner, probably not worth the cost.
Expensive breach, mistake if you do not have coherent team plan with clear goal. On 2v2 expensive moves can have huge return, because of turn order.

Those who play the most show on the latest ranking list. All this loosing has dropped me, but I likely stayed on top ten. Barely.
This also means my secret ranking has dropped very close to what ever we get if we start fresh and win those first few matches. Couple of years to collect those points, lost in 10 matches.
